Hamilton Home Damaged By Lightning Strike

BY IAN CROUCH

The owners of a home at Hamilton South are counting the cost after the house was struck by lightning.

Fire crews from Merewether, Cooks Hill and Carrington were called to the unoccupied split level home on Hibberd Street just before 6.00pm on Wednesday to find a fire in the roof space.

Lightning had struck the roof and travelled down the wall along the power board and solar inverter before exiting through the side of the home.

Crews managed to contain the fire before it could spread, but the lightning bolt punched a large hole in the ceiling.

The force of the lightning also ruptured a water pipe, causing minor flooding.
