Earthquake Hits Off Coast Of Newcastle

An early-morning earthquake off the coast of Newcastle has been picked up by several monitoring stations in NSW.

The 2.5 magnitude tremor hit at about 3.38am on Thursday,  about 35 kilometres due east of Newcastle and lasted for just over a second.

The quake was picked up by the Newcastle seismic monitoring station as well as several others including the Mount Annan station southwest of Sydney.
