Teenager To Face Court Over January Crash

It's claimed a teenager was high on drugs when he crashed his car at Maryland in January, killing his friend.

The 18-year-old's Commodore collided head-on with a Subaru Impreza on Maryland Drive at about 10.30am on Tuesday 5 January 2016.

His 20-year-old passenger died while three other people ended up in hospital, including a 3 month old baby in the second car.

The driver of the Commodore, now 19, has now been issued with a court attendance notice over the crash and will face Newcastle Local Court on July 28 charged with:

- Dangerous driving occasioning death,
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm,
- Negligent driving occasioning death,
- Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and;
- Driving with illicit drug present in blood (second offense)
