Labor Commitment On Williamtown Contamination

BY IAN CROUCH

Labor is promising to do the right thing by residents affected by the Williamtown chemical contamination.

Shadow Defence Minister, Stephen Conroy announced an ALP government would fund blood tests, but stopped short of committing to buy out residents in the contamination red zone who's homes have been rendered worthless.

If elected on July 2, Labor would establish an intergovernmental task force to examine the health and financial impacts on residents and business owners. It will also consider the findings of a Senate inquiry into the matter and develop a nationally consistent approach for screening and heath guidelines along with remediation protocols for areas affected by PFOS and PFOA contamination.
