The Maitland Magpies have been dished a double of the worst variety overnight, after copping both a 3 - nil hiding and having their 3rd place on the ladder claimed by Broadmeadow Magic. Meanwhile, the Newcastle Jets youth squad downed Valentine with a tight 4 - 3 finish, despite squandering a 4 - nil lead at half time.

Another local Rugby player is making a name for himself in the Shute Shield; with former Hamilton Hawks hooker Chris Pusi making his debut for Eastern Suburbs on Saturday. Pusi managed to cross the chalk for a try in Easts loss to Randwick - the very club his cousin Andrew Tuala debuted for only a month a go

Newcastle golfer Blake Windred has dropped out after being falling to Scotsman Robert McIntyre in the second round of play over night. After narrowly making the top 32 of the British Amateur golf tournament with a pair of birdies on his final two holes, Windred was eliminated by McIntyre who managed 4 & 3.

The complex Knights - Dragons transfers are continuing, with both teams working through a deal to have Tariq Sim's move to the club before the transfer window closes. Terms of the deal are being worked through, with the Knights exploring the option of a trading a player to boost their stocks.

Meanwhile, the Knight's struggling left flank will get a boost with former club debutante Peter Mata'utia preparing for a start, following his early release from the Dragons. The left hand defense was picked apart by Warriors winger David Fusitu'a last weekend, who scored four tries alone.
