Search Under Way For Missing Lake Macquarie Man

A search is resuming today (Tuesday 13 January 2026) for a man reported missing from the Lake Macquarie area.

41-year-old Joshua Campbell was last seen at Toronto around 10.00am yesterday and police and family have concerns for his welfare.

He's described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 183cm tall with a thin build, short brown hair and brown eyes and has a distinctive tattoo on his face.

Joshua was last seen wearing black shorts, no shirt and grey joggers and is known to frequent the Toronto area.

BREAKING - Man Found Dead at Charlestown

Police are on scene near Charlestown Square after a man was found dead in a carpark along Ridley St just before 10am.

Its believed the elderly man was stabbed, the area has now been cordoned off.

He died prior to the arrival of police and ambulance.

Another man was spotted running south along the Pacific Highway shortly after the incident.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers.

Officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District have established a crime scene.

Police Believe Missing Sydney Man Could Be In Newcastle

Police are renewing their appeal for help to find a missing man from Sydney who they believe could be in the Newcastle area.

49-year-old Samuel Fallshaw was last seen at Penrith Railway Station on Tuesday May 28.

He's described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall with a large build, brown medium-length hair and hazel eyes.

He's known to frequent the Hamilton area and It's believed he was spotted in Newcastle in July.

UPDATE! Climate Change Protesters Face Court After Stopping Trains Near Singleton

For the 5th day in a row, an activist has stopped operations on the Hunter Valley coal chain.

A grandmother has scaled a stacker reclaimer at Kooragang Island on Friday morning and locked herself onto the infrastructure.

It comes after a 64-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were charged for climbing onto a stopped coal train next Singleton Railway Station yesterday morning.

The woman has spent a night in the cells pending her appearance at Muswellbrook Court today.

The teenager was granted conditional bail to face the children's court on July 17.

EARLIER:

Two climate change activists have been charged following an unauthorised protest at Singleton.

A 64-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl climbed on top of a stopped coal train near Singleton Railway Station early Thursday morning.

They were arrested and charged with cause obstruction to railway locomotive or rolling stock and enter enclosed non-agricultural lands.

The woman was refused bail to face Singleton Court today (Friday 23 June 2023).

The teenager was granted strict conditional bail to face the children's court on July 17.

Police believe a teenage girl missing from Sydney may have travelled to the Newcastle area.

14-year-old Kimberly Williams was last seen leaving a home at Annandale last Friday morning.

Police and her family hold concerns for her welfare due to her age.

Kimberly's described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall, with distinctive coloured hair - with half coloured bright pink, and the other half coloured green.

She was last seen wearing a school uniform, a blue jacket and light blue polo top.

BREAKING! Dozens Evacuated As Fire Rips Through Hamilton South Unit

Around 30 people have been evacuated after a fire broke out in a Hamilton South unit block overnight.

Firefighters from Merewether, Newcastle and Lambton were called to the block of flats in Hassall Street just after 8.30pm on Sunday to find a third floor unit well alight.

It took crews about 3 hours to extinguish and mop up the blaze, with the fire briefly penetrating the roof space.

No-one was injured, however the unit sustained extensive damage.

Police say an electrical fault in an appliance sparked the blaze.

Carrington Factory Fire Leaves $1mil Damage Bill

A factory fire at Carrington has left a damage bill of around $1 million.

Emergency services were called to an industrial complex on Parker Street at about 5.30pm on Tuesday to a fire in the Lovells Springs factory.

Up to 20 people were evacuated and police say a 49-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the Mater Hospital as a precaution.

The building contained around 1000kg of powdered paint, wooden pallets and cardboard boxes.

16 Fire and Rescue trucks including specialist units attended the fire which took around two-and-a-half hours to fully extinguish.

Newcastle Police are investigating the cause of the fire, however they are not treating it as suspicious and say there is no health risk to the community.

Man Under Police Guard After Alleged Assault Of Supermarket Worker At Wallsend

A man remains under police guard in hospital as investigations continue into the alleged assault of a supermarket worker at Wallsend.

Emergency services were called to the Koreka Street shopping village at about 2.30pm on Monday where they found a 52-year-old man unconscious.

He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 36-year-old man on University Drive at Birmingham Gardens at about 7.00pm on Monday.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital a short time later after complaining of feeling unwell.

Police say the injured worker is now listed in a serious but stable condition.  

Police Investigate Double Fatality At Tea Gardens

Police are still trying to locate the families of two people tragically killed in a smash at Tea Gardens.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Viney Creek Road West just after 1.30pm on Thursday.

Police have been told a southbound Isuzu utility collided head-on with a motorcycle and a Toyota Station wagon.

The male motorcyclist died at the scene while the female driver of the Toyota was trapped and died a short time later.

The male driver of the ute was taken to the John Hunter Hospital  with minor injuries and has undergone mandatory testing.

Meanwhile, a man in his 20's has been taken to the John Hunter in a serious condition with abdominal injuries after crashing his car into a tree on Richardson Road at Medowie around 11.00pm on Thursday.

Notorious Rocks Claim Another Life At Snapper Point

Police say a fisherman who was swept to his death off rocks south of Catherine Hill Bay was wearing a life jacket.

Emergency services were called to Snapper Point at about 8 o'clock on Saturday morning after receiving reports the man had been swept into the sea.

His body was found on a rock ledge off Frasers Beach about 24 hours later.

Lifesavers say the man was wearing a life jacket but it came off in the water.

At least 19 people have been lost between Wybung Point and Catherine Hill Bay since 2011.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Truck Crash Closes Pacific Highway Northbound At Nabiac

Motorists heading north on the Pacific Highway are being advised of a serious truck crash at Nabiac south of Taree.

The crash involving three B-Doubles happened just before 3.30am on Thursday, blocking the northbound lanes.

One of the drivers remains trapped and emergency services are working to free him.

Diversions are in place however B-Double drivers will have to park their vehicles or delay their journey.

The highway is expected to remain closed for some time.

Newcastle Police are appealing for dashcam footage after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Islington last month.

On Saturday 23 October, a female was hit by a white SUV as she crossed the intersection of Maitland Road and Hubbard Street, where she sustained broken ribs due to the collision.

Police say the driver of the vehicle did not stop and made no attempt to render assistance or provide details.

Two men charged in relation to shooting death of David King at Salt Ash

Two men have been arrested over the alleged shooting murder of David King in Salt Ash in August.

On Sunday 29 August, emergency services were called to Hideway Drive, where they found David King dead. What appeared to be a motor vehicle accident, soon appeared to be much more sinister, when paramedics discovered the 45-year-old had been fatally shot.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police established Strike Force Breve to investigate the incident as well as what occurred after the alleged murder, when a burnt out white Santa Fe, believed to be linked, was located a short time later on Masonite Road, Heatherbrae.

Over the past week, police have released a number of CCTV images to the public for assistance in identifying the persons featured.

On Friday, a 27-year-old man was arrested after a vehicle stop by police in Wahroonga Street, Raymond Terrace about 11:30am. 

He was charged with murder, take/detain person in company with intention. to obtain advantage, damage property by fire and possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit.

A short time later, a 39-year-old was arrested at Charlestown Square about 1:45pm.

He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and accessory after the fact to kidnapping.

Both of the men were refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.

Police looking for missing teenager from Maitland

Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating a teenager missing from Maitland.

15-year-old Tia was last seen in Maitland around 7pm on Monday 18 October.

She is described as Aboriginal in appearance, has brown/black hair, about 150cm tall, thin build, and has brown eyes.

Tia was last seen wearing black tights, thongs, and a red jumper.

Two men charged over alleged Wallsend break and enter

Police have charged two men over an alleged violent break and enter at Wallsend on Sunday night.

The incident took place at around 11:30pm at a home on Chalmers Road, where four people, three men and a woman were inside. 

Police say two men aged 18 and 20 arrived and entered through the front door, before a verbal altercation occurred and the situation became physical. The younger man allegedly struck a 34-year-old man with a plastic pipe several times.

It will be further alleged the 18-year-old brandished a firearm and threatened the four occupants, before the pair fled the scene on foot.

The 34-year-old suffered lacerations to his head, which were treated at the John Hunter Hospital.

Newcastle City Police attended the scene and established a crime scene. 

A short time later police arrested the two men, the 20-year-old at William Street, Jesmond and the 18-year-old at Victory Parade.

Both men were taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with special aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence-weapon, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others and common assault.

The pair were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Monday.

Police issuing warning for Maitland car owners about rise in thefts

Port Stephens-Hunter Police are issuing a warning to car owners in the region following a recent spate of thefts from cars.

In the first half of October alone, police have had reports of 25 thefts from vehicles, with Maitland being raised as an area of concern.

In his weekly social media update, Superintendent Chad Gillies says most often these offences are occurring to vehicles which have been left unlocked.

"Of those, all bar one have been confirmed as being unlocked and stolen from those cars have included wallets and other personal belongings.

"These crimes are preventable. Protect yourself. Make sure you secure your vehicle and don't leave valuables within them. This includes if you park in the front yard of your house or on the street," Supt Gillies said.

Missing teenager believed to be in Maitland

Police believe a missing teenager from Coonabarabran, in the state's north-west, may have travelled to Maitland.

15-year-old Joshua Drake was last seen leaving a home on River Road, about 11:30pm on Monday, before being reported missing a short time later.

A police investigation has revealed Joshua was sighted about 100km from the home in Coonabarabran at Coolah on Tuesday morning, before he is believed to have travelled to the Maitland area in a silver Mitsubishi Lancer. 

Police and family hold concerns for Joshua’s welfare due to medical conditions which require treatment.

Joshua is described as being about 180cm tall, of slim build with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper and black tracksuit pants.

Anyone who may have seen Joshua or has any information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police investigating alleged knife attack in Wallsend

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man presented to paramedics with knife wounds in Wallsend overnight.

Newcastle Police were called to Bousfield Street to reports of an alleged brawl outside a home around 6:35pm on Tuesday night.

A short time later, Police were called to Bunn Street, only a short walk from where the brawl allegedly took place, after a man presented to NSW Ambulance with wounds to his wrist and chest.

The 41-year-old man was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he was treated.

Detectives from Newcastle City Police District have commenced an investigation into how the man came to be injured, including whether the incidents are linked.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the nearby area between 5.30pm and 7pm is urged to contact Waratah Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Muswellbrook woman issued $5000 fine for breaching Health Orders

The Hunter Valley Police District has put a call out to the community urging them to stay the course and continue complying with the Public Health Orders.

It follows police issuing a $5000 infringement notice to a Muswellbrook woman who was found not isolating at home as directed.

The 30-year-old told officers, who were conducting welfare and compliance checks, she was not at home due to being out exercising.

Police are urging the community to stay at home if you've been directed to self-isolate.

Police are appealing for public assistance in locating Eve Thompson who is believed to be in the Warners Bay Area.

The 17-year-old was last seen at a medical facility in Westmead on Thursday.

A geo-targeting alert has been issued to the residents in the area. Police are urging Warners Bay residents to not disregard the message as spam. The text message is from +61 444 444 444 and is alerting locals of the teens disappearance.

Eve is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall, of a thin build and long brown hair.

She was last seen wearing a black oversized hooded jumper, navy tracksuit pants, white Nike Air Force 1 shoes, and carrying a bright blue denim shoulder bag.

Anyone with information about Eve’s whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.
