A man is due to front court today (Tuesday 21 January, 2025) accused of leading police on a pursuit at Merewether.
Just before 2.30pm on Monday, police say they attempted to stop a speeding Aldi.
However, when the driver failed to pull over, a pursuit was initiated which was terminated due to safety concerns.
The car was found a short time later crashed into a brick wall on Wilton Street..
The driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested nearby after a short foot pursuit.
A search of the car and the man allegedly found a knife, a pistol and a machete.
He's been refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today charged with police pursuit and weapons offences.
