The Hunter is set to lead the way in the green fuel industry with the development of a hydrogen cluster in the region.
Seed funding of $200,000 from National Energy Resources Australia will go to the cluster's partners, which includes the University of Newcastle to focus of key hydrogen projects in the Hunter and across Australia.
It's hoped the cluster will attract industry investment to develop a hydrogen supply chain which in turn will create jobs.
The Hunter cluster is one of 13 across Australia and the only one in NSW.
It was selected due to the region's highly skilled workforce and manufacturing expertise.
It's hoped hydrogen will eventually fuel vehicles and be used in a variety of manufacturing sectors such as iron making.
