A public voice session will take place before Tuesday night's Newcastle Council meeting to discuss Telstra's plan for a 32 metre mobile phone tower at New Lambton.
Residents near the proposed Regent Street site are opposing the tower on the basis of visual amenity and concerns about electromagnetic radiation.
A report to council says emissions from the tower will be 96 per cent below the acceptable Australian standard while Telstra says there is no other suitable site in the suburb.
The tower would replace an existing base station and improve mobile phone coverage in the area.
