Man Faces Court Charged With Murdering 'Love Rival' At Cessnock

A 34-year-old man has faced court accused of murdering a love rival at Cessnock almost two years ago.

Police found 36-year-old Ewan Sams with serious injuries in the backyard of a home on Edith Street in September 2018.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.

It's alleged he was struck by a Nissan Patrol in the backyard of his home.

Following intensive investigations, police arrested 34-year-old Joshua Walker Smith on Maitland Street at Cessnock on Wednesday and charged him with murder.

News Limited reports Police allege Smith and Mr Sams were dating the same woman and the accused became jealous of his love rival and murdered him

Smith faced Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday and has been refused bail to reappear on August 12.

2NUR-FM News understands the accused was questioned at the time of the alleged incident and claimed it was an accident.
