Cessnock Council Wins $2M For Cycleway Project

BY IAN CROUCH

Cessnock Council has secured almost $2 million dollars in federal funding to build an off-road, shared cycleway between Branxton and Greta.

The money is coming from the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund following representations from the community.

The 3.3 kilometre cycleway will connect the Branxton and Greta war memorials to acknowledge the sacrifice of local servicemen and women.

Council will provide a co-contribution of $650,000 towards the project.

It's hoped the cycleway will improve connectivity between the two towns, with Greta residents getting better access to the swimming pool in Branxton, while Branxton residents will get better access to the skate park in Greta.

Work on the cycleway is due to start in the new financial year.

President of the Branxton-Greta Business Chamber, Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent and Branxton RSL Sub Branch President Brian Furner are welcioming almost $2M in Federal funds for the cycleway project
