It's been a tragic start to the year on the Hunter's roads, with a woman killed in a single car crash at Tomago.
Emergency services were called to Tomago Road just after 5pm yesterday where a sedan had left the road and crashed into a tree trapping the four occupants including a 55-year-old woman from New Zealand.
Despite frantic efforts to resuscitate her, she died at the scene.
A 68-year-old woman who was a front seat passenger was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
A 69-year-old man who was driving the car and a 57-year-old man are reported to be in a serious but stable condition.
