Campers will soon be able to return to the dunes at Stockton Beach.
The Worimi Conservation Lands Board, which manages coastal stretch, will launch a sustainable camping trial on February 1, with an initial 15 sites available for up to 8 campers per site.
The number of sites may be expanded to 26 if the trial is successful.
Camping on the beach was banned in 2012 due to damage to the dunes from a powerful storm
Camping on the coastal strip used to be free and unrestricted.
Fees starting at $33.00 for 2 adults will be introduced as part of a move to boost eco tourism on the beach.
