Police Urge Public To "Dob in a Dealer"

BY CATHERINE ALLEN

NSW Police and Crime Stoppers have launched the "Dob in a Dealer" campaign to encourage members of the public to be vocal in the fight against illicit drugs.

The campaign across will visit 14 locations across the state this month and is in Newcastle today.

Police and Crime Stoppers will run community-engagement activities at Nobby's Carpark to highlight the important role the public can play in helping the police shut down the sale and manufacture of illicit substances.

Locals are being urged to be aware of the tell-tale signs of criminal activity and contact police with any information that may help.

"There are often some tell-tale signs if a home is being used as a drug house, such as lights on at all hours of the day and night, cars and people arriving at odd times, or large drums and other equipment being disposed of at the property.

"We understand that people may have reservations for fear of repercussions in reporting this type of activity to police, but please remember that any information you provide will be in confidence," Minister for Police Troy Grant said.

If you think you have any information about someone in your community who is manufacturing or supplying drugs, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 for a confidential conversation, or report securely online at www.crimestoppers.com.au.

Police will also be accepting reports at Nobby's Carpark today.
