Renewable energy is one the six key points the Cessnock Greens will be taking to Saturday's local government election, as they try to secure a 30 percent renewable energy target by 2020 for all Council buildings.
The Greens will also be pushing Council to work with the State and Federal Governments to help secure renewable energy manufacturing in the LGA.
Greens Candidate for Ward D, Janet Murray says renewable energy manufacturing can revive the old Hydro smelter site at Kurri Kurri.
"It's an industrial site, it's sitting there waiting to be used and to me, we really should be focusing on getting 21st century jobs on that site and to me, that would be renewable energy manufacturing jobs and then we might at least have ongoing jobs in this area," she said.
