BY IAN CROUCH

A woman and her boyfriend have been rushed to hospital after a fire broke out in their room at a Mayfield boarding house last night.

Firefighters were called to the Bull Street boarding house just after 11pm.

A 30-year-old man suffered smoke inhalation while pulling his 29-year-old girlfriend to safety - she's in a serious but stable condition after suffering smoke inhalation and burns to her airway.

26 residents of the boarding house had to be evacuated.

Police have set up a crime scene as investigations continue into the cause of the fire, which was contained to one room of the premises.
