Defence Minister Promises Action On Williamtown Property Buyouts

BY IAN CROUCH

The Defence Minister has promised a re-elected Coalition government will immediately start work on the possible acquisition of properties impacted by the Williamtown RAAF Base contamination crisis.

Surrounding residents are still being delivered bottled water almost 10 months after the scandal hit the headlines, with many being unable to sell their properties.

Minister Marise Payne has told Macquarie Radio, the government will explore voluntarily acquiring affected properties.

"If we are re-elected on Saturday, then this is a job which starts on Sunday and I hope to be able to do that within the next couple of months", she said.
