The Hunter's being encouraged to "stay tasteful while tasting", with a new initiative launched by DrinkWise this week.
The campaign supplies cellar doors and wineries with signage and resources, as well as scratchie cards for tourists to track how many wine tastings they've tallied.
Hunter MP Dan Repacholi says it's a simple, but great idea.
"We just scratch it off," he said. "There's one pour."
"You get to six, and then that equals one standard drink."
"It's fantastic that the wineries around the Hunter Valley have taken this on."
It's hoped the initiative will help visitors make responsible choices around alcohol consumption and choosing when to drive.
Six wine tastings, each around 15ml, add up to approximately one standard drink.
