 BY IAN CROUCH

One person has been taken to hospital after an early morning industrial fire at Mayfield West.

Around 30 firefighters were called to the Comsteel plant just after midnight on Wednesday where a hydraulic line in a large shed burst, setting fire to equipment and a control room.

Crews had to use 4 fire engines in relay to get sufficient water to the fire which took more than four hours to extinguish.

One person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation and 40 workers were evacuated.

The control room was destroyed in the fire.
