More than 50 residents have been evacuated from a unit block at Hamilton South, after a second storey unit went up in flames.
Hunter Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the scene on Fowler St, Hamilton South just after 1pm on Wednesday, after receiving numerous reports of a fire.
Crews from Lambton Fire Station were first on scene and found a second story
unit well alight with large volumes of smoke issuing from the roof.
Over 50 residents were evacuated as firefighters worked to extinguish
the fire and prevent further spread to adjoining units.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control however two units
in the building were damaged.
No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
