A man and woman are due to face court accused of assaulting and robbing an intellectually disabled woman in Lake Macquarie.
Police say the 20-year-old victim was in a car which had stopped on the Pacific Highway at Charlestown late on Wednesday night when another car pulled up and the occupants, who are known to the woman, grabbed her and forced her into their car before driving off.
It's alleged the young woman was repeatedly assaulted and had her credit cards stolen while in the car, which stopped on George Booth Drive at West Wallsend where a female dragged her out of the car and assaulted her again before she was driven home to Windale where it's alleged she was forced into a shower and repeatedly assaulted while being filmed.
The young victim is in a stable condition following treatment at Belmont Hospital.
Police arrested a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman at a Gateshead home on Thursday morning.
They've been charged with several offences including robbery in company and assault and have been refused bail to front Belmont Court today, (Friday 16 October 2020).
