BY IAN CROUCH

A man has been refused bail to face court next Monday over an alleged string of frauds and thefts across Newcastle.

Police say the 29-year-old was spotted placing items down his pants at a retail store at Elermore Vale and threatened staff with a knife when they confronted him.

He's also accused of stealing a charity donation box after ordering food from a Hunter Street fast food store and using a stolen credit card on 8 occasions around Newcastle West.

Police arrested the 29-year-old in Hunter Street, Newcastle West on Wednesday and took him to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with 7 offences.

The man is currently on parole until June 2020.
