Stockton's New Boat Harbour Opened

BY ISABEL EVERETT

Stockton's new boat harbour was officially opened today, with members of the local boating community and representatives from both the Liberal and Labor parties welcoming the development.

The $4.43 million dollar project involved upgrading parklands, providing wash down stations and installing 26 new berthing points.

"It's a really great asset to the local community. It provides a much safer place for people to berth their boats and its a much safer and easier place to access," Liberal candidate for Newcastle Blake Keating said.

Safety was previously a serious concern for those trying to dock their boats in the area.

"In 2016 local recreational fishers and professional fishermen approached me about the state of the Marina at Stockton absolutely falling in disrepair and being very dangerous," Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said.

"It's open now and it's a great outcome for the local community. It just shows what you can do when the community partners with a local member of parliament."
