A 38-year-old woman is due to face court next month accused of seriously assaulting a barman at a Lake Macquarie hotel
Police were called to the Belmont Hotel on the Pacific Highway just after 6pm on Sunday.
Patrons had earlier complained to the Duty Manager about a woman causing trouble, but when he tried to escort her from the premises, she allegedly lashed out, punching the 48-year-old barman several times in the head and biting him on the arm.
Patrons rushed to his aid as a scuffle between the pair ensued.
Police say the woman was sedated by paramedics before being taken to the Calvary Mater Hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
The woman has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and failing to leave a licensed premises.
She's been handed a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Belmont Local Court on 20 March, 2019.
