Hunter Volunteers Urged To Put Their Hand Up

BY IAN CROUCH

The Centre for Volunteering is encouraging all Hunter volunteers to include information about their work in the census tomorrow night.

While previous data shows almost 6-million people take part in voluntary work, these figures may be leaving out those involved with informal volunteering.

CEO of the Centre for Volunteering, Gemma Ryegate says there are many forms of voluntary work.

"Sometimes people read the census question and automatically think of the more traditional ways of volunteering, whereas we would like to encourage people to think about whether they participate on their strata committee or boards, or whether they car-pool to take students to sporting matches - that's volunteering," she said.
