Several Hunter courts are about to get a major upgrade to ensure victims and witnesses in domestic and sexual violence cases can give evidence in a safe environment.
Courthouses at Belmont, Cessnock, Maitland, Newcastle and Toronto will undergo improvements such as new or upgraded remote witness or safe rooms equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment and secure access.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Taylor Martin says it's part of a $9 million COVID-19 Commonwealth Stimulus package which will help vulnerable witnesses feel empowered to give their best evidence in a private, secure, well equipped area.
