BY IAN CROUCH

Two men are facing life sentences after police intercepted a yacht off the coast of Lake Macquarie allegedly carrying $750 million worth of methamphetamine.

Officers boarded the La Fayette about 50 nautical miles off the coast early Saturday morning and arrested a 33-year-old New Zealand man and a 34-year-old man holding dual British and South African citizenship.

Police say more than 1000 packages wrapped in plastic were on board the vessel believed to contain the illegal drug.

The yacht was towed to Sydney and the men were refused bail charged with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs.
