Free Pint From Hunter Pubs For Those Who Dig Deep

BY EL FITCHETT

A number of Hunter pubs have rallied together to take part in the For The Love of Your Local campaign, which calls on locals to buy a beer now and drink it later.

The campaign was started to keep locally owned and operated pubs afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, by giving them a cash injection which could ensure they are able to re-open once the government mandated closures are lifted.

An initiative of Carlton & United Breweries and the Australian Hotels Association, the aim is a $1-million dollar lifeline for over 10 000 pubs and clubs across the nation.

Carlton & United CEO, Peter Filipovic says, "Some venues are facing the prospect of never opening their doors again if they don't get cash flow."

This where beer lovers across the Hunter Region are being called on to help.

Buying a pint of Great Northern Super Crisp from a participating pub through For The Love of Your Local's website ensures local pubs get access to the cash immediately.

In return patrons will receive a drink voucher for two pints, with Carlton & United matching every purchase by shouting supporters a second drink.

Nick Quinn, owner of Rutherford's Bradford Hotel, as well as Raymond Terrace's Lake Side Village Tavern, says the idea is a win win for beer lovers and pubs alike.

"Having to stand all our staff down and close the doors was not ideal," says Nick Quinn.

"We know closing is the right thing to do but it is very tough. To get an injection of funds like this now will help us bounce back when the ban is lifted," says Nick Quinn.

Hunter residents can visit the For The Love of Your Local website at https://loveofyourlocal.com.au/ to find their nearest participating hotel.
