Man and Woman Charged After Allegedly Assaulting and Locking Woman in Room in Hunter Home

A Telarah man and Rutherford woman will face court today after allegedly holding a woman against her will and assaulting her at a home in the Hunter last week.

About 3pm on Tuesday the 14th of April,  police attended a home on Capper Street in Telarah, following reports about concern for the woman's welfare.

Upon arrival, police located a 28-year-old woman locked in a room suffering multiple injuries to her face and chest, who was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Logan Road in Rutherford, at around about 8am on Friday the 17th of April, where they spoke with a 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman.

Both were arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.

The man was charged with aggravated sexual assault in company and inflicting actual bodily harm, taking and detaining in company with intent to get advantage occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of supplying a  prohibited drug.

The woman was charged with aggravated sexual assault in company inflicting actual bodily harm, taking and detaining with intent to obtain advantage occasioning actual bodily harm, and taking and detaining in company with intent to get advantage occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing prohibited drug.

Both were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Monday the 20th of April via video link.
