Police say a Suzuki Vitara hit a telegraph pole on Russell Road about 400 metres from the Croudace Road intersection just after 4.00am on Wednesday
The force of the crash has snapped the pole at the base and brought down power lines.
The driver, who police believe was the only occupant of the car, has left the scene.
Police say Russell Road is likely to remain closed for some time while crews deal with the broken power pole and wires.
Diversions are in place.
