Three Men Face Court Over Cannabis Haul at Adamstown

Police have charged three men after they found a large amount of cannabis during a routine traffic stop at Adamstown.

Officers pulled over a car on Glebe Road at about 6.00pm on Monday and breath tested the driver, who returned a negative result.

However, a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered 18 kilograms of cannabis.

Police arrested three men - one aged 33 and the others aged 22, and took them to Newcastle Police Station where they were charged with possess prohibited drug (deemed supply) and were refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.

Millions of Dollars in Lost Super Waiting for Hunter Workers

There's millions of dollars of lost and unclaimed super just waiting for in accounts Hunter workers.

The latest figures from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) show that across the region there's $342 million lost super accounts and super being held by the ATO just waiting to be collected.

MAITLAND has the highest amount of untouched super with $19 million, followed by Wallsend with just over $17 million.

Next on the list is Charlestown where there's around $16 million, in Ashtonfield there's $15.8 million and in ADAMSTOWN there's $12 million.

The ATO considers 'lost' super to be accounts held by super funds where they've lost contact with the fund member. By law after a period of time, they're transferred to the ATO which is when they're considered to be 'unclaimed super'.

The ATO says it's easy for people to lose track of their super funds when we change jobs, move house or just haven't updated details with our super funds.

Newcastle Teen To Face Court Accused of Threatening Service Station Staff with a Gun

A Newcastle teenager will front a Children's Court today after threatening staff at an Adamstown service station.

At about 11:10am on Saturday (9th September) the 17-year-old went into a service station on Glebe Road and became involved in an altercation with a staff member, throwing a cup of coffee at the employee.

The situation escalated quickly when the teenager retrieved a pistol from his car and allegedly threatened staff members who retreated inside the store.

After kicking the front doors of the store the teenager, and two of his friends, left in his car.

At about 11:30 last night, the teenager attended Newcastle Police Station with the remains of the replica firearm which had been smashed.

He was arrested and later charged with multiple offences including being armed with intent to commit indictable offence, common assault, possess unauthorised firearm and traffic offences.

The teen was refused bail.

Man charged after police pursuit earlier this week

A man has been charged after evading police during a pursuit and ramming a police car on Monday night.

Just after 2am on Monday night a Mazda 3 was pursued twice travelling well over the speed limit through New Lambton, Adamstown and Cooks Hill.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on both occasions but terminated the chase after the Mazda 3 ran a red light.

A short time later at about 2:30am, another police car came across the Mazda 3 in a cul-de-sac in Adamstown. When the driver saw police, the driver reversed into the rear passenger side door of the police car.

The Mazda sped away and was later found abandoned in bushland at Raymond Terrace.

Following police investigations, a 20-year-old man was arrested in Raymond Terrace yesterday and charged with eight offences including police pursuit, drive whilst disqualified use offensive weapon to prevent lawfully detention.

He was refused bail and faces court today.

Driver still on the run after pursuit across Newcastle

A driver is still on the run after a dangerous police pursuit across Newcastle overnight.

At about 2:15am, plain clothed officers noticed a Mazda 3 registered to a Raymond Terrace address, travelling well over the speed limit in Mayfield.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it.

In Hamilton South, marked police officers saw the same car and engaged in a pursuit for eight minutes through New Lambton, Adamstown and Cooks Hill.

Police again attempted to stop the vehicle, but the pursuit was terminated after the car ran a red light.

A short time later, at about 2:30am a caged police car came across the Mazda 3 in a cul-de-sac in Adamstown.

When the driver saw police, the driver reversed the Mazda 3 four meters hitting the rear passenger door of the police car.

The car took off and no one was injured.

Investigations are continuing.

Motorcyclist Injured In Adamstown Crash

Police say a motorbike rider was looking behind him just as he was about to change lanes when he slammed into the back of a stationary car at Adamstown last night.

The accident happened just after 7.00pm on City Road near the Brunker Road intersection with a Kawasaki motor bike colliding with the back of a Mitsubishi which was waiting in a line of traffic.

The man in his early 20's ended up on the roof of the car.

He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital with a suspected broken wrist.

Childs toy thwarts mans escape from police

A Narrabri man's escape from police in Adamstown has been thwarted, after he tripped on a children's water toy while trying to outrun police.

The 28 year old man was stopped by Newcastle officers in his Maroon Holden Commodore on Glebe Street at about 12pm yesterday.

The man was wanted on three outstanding warrants, and in the midst of being arrested he resisted police and ran off.

Police have been told as the man was running away from officers he allegedly slipped and fell on a children's water toy.

He was consequently arrested a short distance away and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was refused bail.

The man was charged with a number of offenses including escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest, two counts of larceny and the three outstanding warrants.

He will appear in Newcastle Local Court later today.
