Driver still on the run after pursuit across Newcastle

BY JESSICA ROUSE

A driver is still on the run after a dangerous police pursuit across Newcastle overnight.

At about 2:15am, plain clothed officers noticed a Mazda 3 registered to a Raymond Terrace address, travelling well over the speed limit in Mayfield.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it.

In Hamilton South, marked police officers saw the same car and engaged in a pursuit for eight minutes through New Lambton, Adamstown and Cooks Hill.

Police again attempted to stop the vehicle, but the pursuit was terminated after the car ran a red light.

A short time later, at about 2:30am a caged police car came across the Mazda 3 in a cul-de-sac in Adamstown.

When the driver saw police, the driver reversed the Mazda 3 four meters hitting the rear passenger door of the police car.

The car took off and no one was injured.

Investigations are continuing.
