Police Hunt Attempted Carjacker At Wallsend

 BY IAN CROUCH

A would-be carjacker remains on the run after trying to take a vehicle at Wallsend early Monday morning.

Police say they were called to Nelson Street at about 6.30am.

They were told a pregnant nurse was picking up a work colleague when a man approached the car and also tried to get inside.

The quick-thinking driver managed to lock the doors.

However, the man jumped on the bonnet and clung to it as the frightened woman drove off.

She continued for 500 metres before stopping the car in Kokera Street, and the suspect fled.

He's described as being 170cm-175cm tall, with a thin build and pale complexion and was wearing the black hooded jumper, a pair of black, three-quarter length pants and no shoes.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
