Cockle Creek is seeing major developments taking place with the draft area plan currently on public exhibition.
The area plan will facilitate new developments including contemporary retail, new industrial opportunities, residential land and a business park.
Lake Macquarie Council says this area plan has the potential to create more employment and residential possibilities with it's impact continuing into the next two decades.
The recent Munibung Road extension has allowed a missing link to be made between Boolaroo and Cardiff.
This has meant increased travel and tourist opportunities following the Bunnings and recent Costco store development and can be seen as the start of the Cockle Creek area being a feature for the Lake Macquarie region.
Mayor Cr Kay Fraser says this new area plan is a real economic boost for the area and residents of the region are already starting to see its potential.
