Swansea Heads Radio Base Upgrade

BY GRACE LANCASTER

Lake Macquarie's Marine Rescue Swansea Heads Radio Base will receive an upgrade after gaining a $152,498 thousand dollar New South Wales Government grant.

The upgrade, offered through a National Infrastructure Grants program, aims to improve the reliability of Marine Rescue's services throughout the Hunter by enhancing vessels' communication in the project.

The Radio Base will receive new radio systems and backup generators to help monitor coastal waters, respond to calls for help, and provide advice and assistance 24 hours a day.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald, says the money is well deserved.

"Marine Rescue has been in Swansea for the past 40 years and obviously radio and communication is absolutely vital, it's a big area to cover and they certainly deserve and need the best radio equipment and we are very happy to support that."

"They're very keen to get this underway, they've identified the equipment they want and I believe it will be in store quite quickly," he said.
