Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp has revealed that over $1.2m has been spent on advertising for the 'Revitalising Newcastle' project.
Through a freedom of information inquiry, Mr Crakanthorp found excessive spending on advertising, with $100,000 going to social media ads alone.
"While that's happening, we have small businesses on Hunter Street suffering and going out of business," Tim Crakanthorp said.
"I'm sure those businesses and any Novocastrians would prefer to keep those small businesses alive rather than being bombarded with advertising."
Multiple small businesses have been given no option but to shut down as no rent relief or support has been provided.
Tim Crakanthorp says the Liberal government are "more interested in buying $1.2m worth of advertising instead of supporting Hunter Street business, it's just a disgrace."
