Revenue NSW pay dispute

BY KYLE CARROLL

54 staff members have been axed from the Maitland branch of Revenue NSW without their promised redundancy payment.

This adds to a total of more than 200 public service jobs being removed from the city in the past 3 years.

Regardless of the high job loss in the region, redundant Revenue NSW staff have been let down, missing out on a promised pay-out.

Staff were told in writing their pay-out would be banked as at the 2nd of July, or at the latest, the next day. However, staff are still waiting for their payments being told it will not come through until the next pay-run on July 12th.

Member for Maitland, Jenny Aitchison who provide a notice of motion to parliament in May to prevent job cuts cannot believe how the situation is being handled

"This is appalling treatment of people who have had their lives turned upside down. It fails any test of fairness or compassion."

Revenue NSW saw a pay increase of 2.5% at the beginning of the new financial year for all remaining employees.

By paying redundant staff by July 2nd, they would miss the increase, but when failing to do so, staff are now expecting the increase to be applied to their pay-outs as it is within the new financial year.

Shadow Minister for Finance, Clayton Barr says this is not the fault of the staff and the extra pay needs to be provided.

"Given that the pay-outs have failed to be processed on 2nd or 3rd of July, and not to be done until the 12th, the pay-outs should include the 2.5% increase."

This will impact each sacked worker by an average of $1500-$2000 each.
