Port Stephens council is considering the installation of defibrillators at sports venues across the shire.
It comes after a man suffered a heart attack during a cricket match at Raymond Terrace last weekend, with his team-mates having to find a defibrillator from the nearby Lakeside Leisure Centre.
Council will consider asking sporting groups to go halves in the cost of providing the life-saving machines at it's next meeting on February 27.
West ward Councillor, Giacomo Arnott will put forward a notice of motion on the issue and says 12 sites have been identified across the Port Stephens area which would provide maximum coverage for as many sports and clubs as possible.
"This is a no-brainer. Council will be asked to work on a 50/50 split with each ward's sports council to facilitate the funding and installation of defibrillators at sports complexes," he said.
