Man on bail pleads guilty

A man on bail has pleaded guilty in Newcastle Local Court yesterday after glassing a patient at a Nelson Bay pub.

Fairfax reports the 29 year old man struck the man and fled on foot, later on he turned himself into police.

The man was known to police after being accused of assaulting two police officers in 2014 and had been on bail for more than two and a half years.

The man struck the victim after a conversation over the man's girlfriend became heated.

The victim was treated and flown to John Hunter Hospital for surgery to his injuries.

The man attended court via video link from the maximum security section of Cessnock Correctional Centre

He pleaded guilty to the charge of reckless wounding but the matter was adjourned to the 18th of July.
