Newcastle City Council was required to cancel their meeting last night after a number of councillors failed to attend.
All four Liberal councillors, Brad Luke, Sharon Waterhouse, David Compton and Lisa Tierney, and two independents, Allan Robinson and Andrea Rufo were all no-shows.
Their lack of presence resulted in the council unable to make the minimum quorum.
This follows increased tensions between Newcastle councillors who are at odds over the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer for the council.
Its reported a candidate was selected for the CEO position before other short-listed candidates were interviewed by the council.
The meeting has been adjourned and is expected to be re-conducted this week.
