Armed man arrested in Waratah

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man who was allegedly armed with a knife and mask outside a shopping centre at Coolamin Road, Waratah last night.

About 9:45 last night, police received a call from a concerned member of the public about a man acting suspiciously.

Police arrived soon after and spoke with the man before subjecting him to a search.

Senior Constable Felicity Jenkins from NSW Police said the man was placed under arrest and taken to Waratah Police Station.

"He was charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, possess means of disguising face with intent to commit an indictable offence, and custody of a knife in a public place," she said.

Police inquiries are continuing.
