BREAKING! Crews Battling House Fire At Wangi Wangi

Fire has caused extensive damage to a home at Wangi Wangi.

Newcastle Fire Command says 5 fire trucks were sent to Lakeview Road just before 6 o'clock on Thursday November 20, arriving to find a fire in an external garage had spread to the single level timber and cladding home.

Crews have managed to control the blaze, which has caused damage to two bedrooms.

Fire and Rescue says no-one was home when the fire broke out.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Crews are still working to fully extinguish the fire.

 

Teens Rescued From Upturned Tinny On Lake Macquarie

Marine Rescue NSW says lifejackets played a crucial role in the successful rescue of 3 teenage boys from a capsized vessel on Lake Macquarie.

The boys were in a tinny which overturned on the southern side of Wangi Wangi on Monday morning.

Water Police alerted Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue, who arrived on scene with 12 minutes of the call.

By then, the trio had been clinging to the hull of their upturned boat and treading water for about half an hour before being rescued.

They were taken to the Dobell Park boat ramp where they were given the all clear by paramedics.

Van Tangled In Road Wires After Crash At Wangi Wangi

Firefighters have had a difficult task trying to free a vehicle involved in a crash at Wangi Wangi early Tuesday morning from centre guard wires.

Just before 3.30am, a white panel van was travelling along Wangi Road near Summerhill Drive when the driver swerved to avoid a kangaroo.

The van crashed into the centre guard ropes in the process.

The male driver wasn't injured, but it took firefighters more than 2 hours to free the vehicle from the tangled mess,using power saws to cut the wires.

Owner Of Stolen Car Spots Vehicle Being Worked On At Wangi Wangi

A lucky find for the owner of a stolen car - spotting his vehicle parked in the driveway of a home at Wangi Wangi on Thursday night.

Police say the owner noticed someone working on his Mitsubishi Triton in Dobell Drive at about 6.00pm and approached the man.

As this was happening, an off-duty police officer was driving past and saw the altercation developing. He spoke to the resident and tried to calm him down.

Police say the alleged offender then tried to get away on a motor bike which was also stolen, but he was apprehended as other officers arrived.

The 26-year-old man has been charged with 5 offences including taken and drive conveyance without consent and has been refused bail to face Toronto Local Court today ( Friday 8 May 2020).

Police Allegedly Seize Child Abuse Material from Wangi Wangi Home

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged possession of child abuse material seized by police at a Wangi Wangi home on Thursday. 

Following an investigation, detectives from the Lake Macquarie Police District executed a search warrant at the home, allegedly seizing a number of electronic devices containing child abuse material. 

A 46-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Toronto Police Station.

He was charged with using a carriage service to access child abuse material, possessing child abuse material using a carriage service, and possessing child abuse material.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on Friday the 14th of February. 

BREAKING Cruiser Destroyed And Others Damaged By Fire At Wangi Wangi

A boat has been destroyed and up to 3 others have been damaged in a devastating fire at Wangi Wangi early Monday.

Fire crews responded to reports an 11 metre cabin cruiser was up in flames about 70 metres off the shore from Wangi Workers Club just after 2am.

However crews couldn't reach the vessel and an RFS boat from Wyee had to be brought in to fight the blaze which had been burning fiercely for up to 45 minutes by the time they arrived.

They managed to extinguish the fire but the cruiser was burnt to the waterline and sank in 5 metres of water as it was being towed to a nearby jetty.

It's not clear at this stage if anyone was on board the boat when the fire broke out.

The RFS says 2 or 3 other boats including a 30 foot cruiser were scorched by the intense blaze.

There is a large amount of fuel debris in the water.

Hazmat crews have recovered 2 gas cylinders - they say fuel is being dispersed by the wind and tide.
