Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Young Girl In Newcastle

A man is due to front court today (Tuesday 26 August, 2025) charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in Newcastle.

Police say around 1.30am on Friday August 15 a 14-year-old girl was waiting at Hamilton Railway Station when she was approached by an unknown man.

It's alleged he followed her to nearby Fern Street Islington where he sexually assaulted her.

Around 7.00am on Monday, detectives with the assistance of the Raptor Squad executed a search warrant at a home on Campden Street, Thornton.

They seized clothing, a backpack and an electronic device.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the property.

He's been refused bail charged with having sexual intercourse with a child aged between 14 and 16 and failing to comply with an order to provide digital evidence.

Teen Charged After Crashing Motorcycle into Charlestown Shop

A teenage boy has been arrested after allegedly riding an unregistered motorbike on the footpath at Gateshead before crashing into a shop at Charlestown. 

Police were called to the Pacific Highway at Gateshead at about 8:50am on Thursday the 24th of May,  following reports a motorcyclist was riding on the footpath.

At about 10.15am, officers spotted the rider allegedly driving dangerously near pedestrians on the footpath along the Pacific Highway at Charlestown.

Police arrested the 14-year-old rider after he crashed into the counter of a nearby sporting goods store. 

He's been charged with six offences including reckless driving and use of an unregistered motor vehicle. 

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a Children's Court on Monday the 10th of July.

Teenager Rescued After Cliff Fall At Greta

A teenager has been rescued after falling 15 metres down a cliff at Greta.

The accident happened at the Hunter River Reserve about 4 o'clock on Tuuesday afternoon, with rescue crews arriving to find the boy entangled in a tree and at risk of falling further to the ground.

Paramedics and a doctor were roped down to the youth and he was brought to the top at about 7pm suffering a broken leg.

NSW Ambulance says the difficult and complex rescue was compounded by fading light and the onset of rain.

The boy was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Teen Firefighter Charged Over Lake Macquarie Bushfires

A 17-year-old volunteer firefighter is due to face the children's court next month accused of deliberately lighting bushfires in the Lake Macquarie area.

Police allegedly spotted the boy setting bush alight on Archery Road at Wakefiled last Friday.

They also claim he's responsible for lighting fires at Weir Road Teralba in November and Current Avenue Teralba in December.

The youth was arrested during a vehicle stop on Rose Avenue at Glendale last night.

He's been charged with 3 counts of lighting a fire and being reckless as to it's spread and granted conditional bail to face court on February 4.

Young Man Dies in Seaham Crash

A teenager has tragically died after a single-vehicle collision at East Seaham early this morning.

Emergency services were called out to East Seaham Road just after 4:30am, where it appears the 19-year-old's Subaru Liberty had veered off the road and crashed into a power pole sometime earlier.

The young man was en route to the John Hunter Hospital when he succumbed to critical injuries.

Port Stephens Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward as crash investigations are launched.

Teen approached by man at Metford

Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was approached at Metford.

Around 4 o' clock on Friday afternoon, the 15-year-old girl was walking along Streeton Drive when a white utility stopped next to her at the intersection of Whitley Avenue.

The man then spoke to her and is described as being aged in his 60's with a skinny build and grey to white hair.

It's believed he was wearing a grey or white t-shirt at the time.
