Maitland Council is set to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1955 floods on Saturday (22 February).
Council will facilitate an exhibition where visitors can view boats and equipment in the disaster, and recovered video footage.
Mayor Philip Penfold says the event will focus on educating residents.
"It's a great opportunity for people to come along, hear from experts, see displays, get a better understanding of what happened in Maitland in '55 and understand that ongoing risk for the people of Maitland far too often," he said.
