The Weir Bridge at Barnsley has finally opened for traffic, after the original single-lane crossing was closed early last year.
Lake Macquarie Council cut the ribbon on the structure on Friday morning.
The new $8.6 million bridge is dual-lane, and considered safer and faster than the previous option.
The Weir Road was also realigned to improve road safety, and a three metre-wide shared pathway was implemented on the bridge's northern side.
