Firefighters Contain Bushfire At Corlette

Firefighters have managed to contain a bushfire which at one stage threatened homes at Corlette early Thursday morning.

Fire & Rescue crews from Nelson Bay were called to an area behind homes at The Peninsula and The Bridge just before 3.30am, but their vehicles couldn't reach the fire and they called for assistanec from the RFS.

RFS crews from Soldiers Point arrived took around an hour to extinguish and black out a 50 square metre area of bush.

Meanwhile, firefighters have taken around 2 hours to extinguish a fire which broke out just after 2.00am on Thursday and burnt through 100 square metres of grass off Waran Road at Whitebridge.
