UPDATE! Cardiff Bakery Destroyed In Overnight Fire

Police say a fire which destroyed a bakery at Cardiff early Monday appears to have been an accident.

Around 30 firefighters from six stations were called to the Cardiff French Hot Bread shop on Main Road just before 1.30am.

They fought for 90 minutes but were unable to save the two storey building.

Police say there two staff at work at the time and the fire was the result of a mishap - the workers managed to escape unharmed along with the residents of an upstairs apartment.

Fire has destroyed a bakery at Cardiff early Monday.

Firefighters from Cardiff, Charlestown, Wallsend, Teralba, Lambton and an aerial pumper from  Mayfield West were called the two story building in Main Road just before 1.30am.

They took 90 minutes to extinguish and mop up the fire, which left the building in ruins.

Newcastle Fire Command says crews managed to stop the fire spreading to adjoining buildings.

No-one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
