Inquiry to Examine Bullying Within NSW Emergency Services

BY SARAH JAMES

The NSW Parliament's Legal Affairs is establishing an Inquiry into emergency services agencies in response to reports of bullying, harassment and discrimination within emergency services agencies.

As part of the Inquiry, support services offered by emergency services will be examined.

The Inquiry follows research which revealed emergency services workers are at greater risk of developing mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

State Member for Cessnock, Clayton Barr, says this Inquiry is needed as everyone has a right to feel safe in their workplace, including emergency services personnel.

"The purpose of the inquiry is to hear personal stories from individuals in emergency services," said Mr. Barr. "I would encourage emergency service workers right across the state to take this opportunity to make a submission."

Closing date for submissions is 23 July 2017.
