A man is due to front court today accused of leading police on a high-speed pursuit on a stolen motor bike through the eastern suburbs of Lake Macquarie last night.
Central Hunter police were taking part in a joint operation with Lake Macquarie officers when they noticed the Honda CBR 300 on the Pacific Highway at Belmont just after 10pm.
The bike had been reported stolen from a Tornoto address 6 days ago.
The officers gave chase when the rider failed to stop, with the pursuit going through Belmont North, Windale, Gateshead, Mount Hutton and neighbouring suburbs at speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour in a 60km zone before it was terminated for safety reasons.
Chief Inspector, Dean Olsen says good work from a Dog Squad officer led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man a short time later.
"An eagle-eyed Dog Squad officer spotted the cycle in a car park on Hillsborough Road at Warners Bay and approached the rider and effected the arrest at that point there," he said.
A search of the man allegedly uncovered two small resealable bags of what's believed to be methamphetamine and some other tablets.
He's been refused bail to face Belmont Local Court today charged with several traffic offences, disqualified driving, steal motor vehicle, drug possession and breach of bail.
