Missing Man From Taree

Newcastle Police have commenced inquiries into a man reported missing from Taree and are calling for public assistance to help find him.

22-year-old Izayah Paulson was last seen in Taree about 1pm on Saturday.

He's described as being of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes.

He has a tattoo with the word 'Paulson' down his spine and another one with the letters VL on his left hand.

Police believe Izayah may be in the Taree or Wingham areas.

Anyone with information into his whereabouts is urged to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Firefighters from Newcastle have been sent to Taree where a multi-unit apartment block is on fire.

Newcastle Fire Command says 8 units from as far away as Coffs Harbour were called to the 12 unit 2 storey Department of Housing block on Ronald Road at about 1.30am on Thursday to find a fire in an upper level unit had spread to adjoining apartments.

The roof of the building has since collapsed.

40 people have been evacuated and one person suffered a suspected broken arm when they jumped from the second floor to escape the flames.

Young woman dies in John Hunter after fatal collision

A woman has sadly died in the John Hunter Hospital after a two-car collision near Taree.

The crash occurred around 7:20 last night when a 40-year old woman in a Ford Falcon and a 19-year-old woman in a Mazda 2 collided on Old Bar Road, Old Bar, east of Taree.

After being trapped for some time, the young woman was released from the wreckage by emergency services and airlifted to the John Hunter in a critical condition, but tragically couldn't be saved.

The older woman was also taken to the John Hunter for hip, ankle and rib injuries but is currently in a stable condition, despite having been ejected from her vehicle.

She is undergoing mandatory blood and alcohol tests while police conduct crash investigations.
